We finished our journey south and have arrived at Myrtle. Good news - 12 year old Belle, who regularly poops on my carpets at home at least once a day but somehow just turned gaseous for a day and a half in the motorhome, FINALLY pooped in North Carolina. Gas problem solved! Phew, peeew problem gone. . . .
The trip down has been surprisingly hassle free - no traffic to speak of, gas prices weren't stupidly crazy ($1.86 seems to be the norm). We arrived the campground to find ourselves surrounded by New Yorkers (apparently this week is NY's school vacation week, next week is MA and I'm not sure when NH is), we've been advised by our NY neighbors that it's been a very chilly week here - we'll be attesting to that as tonight's low is for 40 degrees and frost warnings. Forecasts for next week promises wa
rmer weather in the form of highs of 70. We'll see.
rmer weather in the form of highs of 70. We'll see.So, as the Moro's, Egan's and Brawn's get settled into our campsites, it was not without angst. The Moro's, pictured here, had a smooth setup, no problems and were lounging posthaste!
BUT (and don't deny it, you knew this was coming), the Egan's and Brawn's had, typically, "issues". . . Aud goes to open the bedroom slide, and what happens? Nooooo, opening of the bedroom slide. I holler to Bob of the problem, he responds in a rather colorful manner and adds it to the list of setup stuff we need to do. Aud resigns herself to tearing apart the bedroom (which was so sytematically packed) so Bob can take the bed apart and get underneath to the mechanism that works the slide. Much ado for a cotter pin but unfortunately necessary. . .
What happened with the Brawn's, you ask? Much more upsetting than what the Egan's went through. They start setting up - the motorhome jacks won't go down (for those who don't have a motorhome, the jacks are CRITICAL to having a stable camper that doesn't rock around when you walk around in it, they are also key to being able to put out the slides without damaging them. Bob, Jim and Jim spent hours poring over the owner's manual (useless) and we hit the website for the jack manufacturer (again useless) and they ended up calling a local RV doctor, who made an emergency trip out and got them fixed up. Then, inexplicably, their bathroom sink BROKE! Just split right in half - and it's an odd shape - we're not sure how that fix is going to play out. . . .
But the girls are happy. . . Now that we've gotten all the tough issues dealt with, it's a slide into "ahhhhhh, vacation"! We've got at least 3 families joining us tomorrow afternoon followed by another dozen or so to arrive on Saturday. Pirateland is definitely going to be a happening place for the next week!!!The boys are consoling themselves with a golf plan for tomorrow, the gals have plans for the beach as the weather looks to be mighty fine tomorrow!
Looking forward to the rest of the arrivals, picking up the golf carts tomorrow. . . Let the races begin!!!
More later . . . .
